- The SC-EB stores the spray gun on the inside of the door rather than the outside, so the spray gun is protected during transport.
- The SC-EB uses 2 Nalgene® bottles (approximately one liter each) that can be held in your hand or hooked on your belt, rather than an internal 1-gallon (3.8 liter) tank.
- The SC-EB has just an air hose rather than a twin-line hose like the SC-1.
- The standard SC-EB hose is 30 feet (which will fit inside the case). The hose on the SC-1 is only
15 feet maximum. Therefore, a worker will be able to move more freely with the SC-EB.
You can use up to 100 feet of air hose with the SC-EB (the optional extra hose may be ordered from ESS).
Both the SC-1 and the SC-EB spray the same. They have the same spray gun.

Can the SC-EB gun feed from the case rather then carry the bottles around?
No, the SC-EB cannot feed from the case. The SC-EB has two Nalgene® bottles that are removed from the case during use and either handheld or hooked on a belt. Only compressed air travels through the hose. The spray gun has a short feeder hose that connects to the bottle in use at the time. Each bottle will spray for about 15 minutes.
Compare the operation of the SC-1 — Liquid is transported from the internal tank, and air from the air compressor to the spray gun via the “twin-line” hose. One line for air (red), the other for liquid (gray).

Actually, the case should be closed during use. There are vents in the case as well as a small fan for ventilation.
I’ve been getting a “shock” while spraying with my SC-1/SC-EB sprayer. How can I prevent it?
ESS wants to emphasize that these static shocks, although sometimes unpleasant, are not at all dangerous to people. They are simply an unfortunate consequence of spraying with an electrostatic sprayer in an enclosed area. When you spray charged particles onto other objects, some of the charge gets on you, or else an opposite charge may be drawn up from the ground, depending on the circumstances.

First make sure that the sprayer is properly grounded. Your sprayer has a short chain attached to the bottom of its case. It is important that this chain touch the floor during use. If the chain is broken or missing, replace it. |
Pay attention to the exact conditions in which the shocks happen. You may find that you can prevent them by keeping your finger on the metal trigger of the sprayer, rather than just holding its plastic body. If the shocks happen only when you subsequently touch a piece of equipment, try touching a painted or plastic part of it before you touch metal.
Try misting the floor of the room with plain water before spraying the disinfectant chemical. (This would be very easy to do with the SC-EB — one bottle could be filled with plain water, the other could have the disinfectant.)
You could also try wearing a different type of shoe. Leather will conduct better than rubberized soles and may llessen the problem.
Avoid touching sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, printers, or cell phones while spraying . A static discharge could damage them.

You may be too close to your target. The MaxCharge spray nozzle is designed to push the electrostatically-charged droplets out with a stream of compressed air. If you are too close to your target, the airflow may be pushing the spray mist right back to you.

Because you are grounded, you will become a target for the electrostatically-charged droplets. The particles don't know that they're not supposed to go onto your body — they are just settling on a surface with the opposite charge to themselves. As the charge from the particles builds up on you, they will be repelled from you, but then you'll get a shock when you touch something grounded. Try the suggestions under "I’ve been having trouble with getting a 'shock'..." to help manage the problem.
In any case, this underscores the importance of wearing protective gear when spraying. ESS recommends using eye protection and a respirator mask when spraying indoors with an electrostatic sprayer. |
The sprayer nozzle drips occasionally.
This is considered normal and is usually harmless. If you are spraying where the drips would be undesirable, ESS recommends that you have a cloth to hold under the nozzle. For example, when spraying a hospital room, hold the cloth under the nozzle when spraying from over the bedding.
Can the SC-EB concept have the 1-gallon tank in it?
We are currently designing the SC-ET. It will be like the SC-EB in size but with an internal tank like the SC-1. It should be available for purchase in early 2009.
Is the SC-1 tank removable like the SC-EB?
The tank for the SC-1 remains inside during use. However, it can be removed for cleaning. You will need to loosen the bracket that holds the tank in the case and then slide the tank down and forward.

What is a “Nalgene” bottle?
Nalgene® is the brand name of the laboratory-quality polypropylene bottles ESS includes with the SC-EB. Lightweight and tough, these 1-liter bottles offer excellent chemical resistance to most acids, bases and alcohols.
